Editing the Artist

By Eleanor Bennett... I hope that everyone reading has had a marvelous holiday period. Being so tied up all year, it may come as a surprise I am doing a little editing for me as an artist for my own projects. I've been doing a lot of illustration and cover work recently so for that I can spend three hours just looking through my archive for the right image to suit a story or magazine cover. One Man’s Treasure

By Eleanor Bennett... This month's article is about a form of recycling by creating art — and in this case photography and auctions. I love to take pictures in almost any circumstance. I enjoy going to auctions on the viewing days and do photography of the items up for bid.Often with the public not being allowed to photograph stately homes and such (well, at least the ones local to me), it is a nice change of scenery to go somewhere where almost anything can turn up. The Day of the Imprisoned Writer

By Eleanor Bennett... This third article from me shall hope to highlight the active community of the Society of Imprisoned Writers, otherwise know as PEN International. With this installment, I am including a few photographs that received a prize in the "Peace Is" International Photography Competition based in Greece. November 15th is the official Day of the Imprisoned Writer, an annual multi-national day intended to recognize and support writers who resist repression of the basic human right to freedom of expression . It was started in 1981 by PEN's International Committee. Continue reading

Summer Celebration In The British Isles

By Eleanor Bennett... Images are from the New Mills Festival 2012, Disley Rose Queen Festival 2012 and Disley Jubilee Celebrations 2012 Taking place last June, the Great British public had a whale of a time in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. I found it to be the perfect time to take many portraits of the people who enjoy to celebrate fun in all its forms. On the day of Jubilee celebrations, everyone was freezing cold yet children of five were still running 'round squealing and laughing. I heard no one complain. On the day of New Mills Festival, after the floats had paraded down the high street, the rain started to pour relentlessly. People on electric rides eating in the rain couldn't have cared less. I captured many happy smiles through the veil of a downpour. Continue reading

Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman

By Charmaine Lanham... Besides being one of the world's best places to listen to music, musicians who live in the Nashville area find that it's one of the most wonderful places to play as well. The Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman series has historically allowed celebrities like Ricky Skaggs, Marty Stuart and many more, to design performances featuring locally-based artists who rarely get to perform together. Since many professional musicians spend the bulk of their working lives traveling the road, it is great fun for them to have a “home gig” and make music with their peers. Continue reading

Eleanor Bennett: Rising Teen Photographer

By Megan Kelley... Dramatic and intimate, the photographic series by Eleanor Bennett featured in this month’s Dancing Noodle are as unapologetic and gritty as an urban landscape, as complex as a masquerade, and with as many angles as adulthood. Though only sixteen, the young British photographer has been shooting for four years with impressive strides in both her prolific shooting and in award-winning exhibitions and publications. Continue reading
